A short video call before you book color. We look at your hair now, talk through your history and where you want to go, then pick the right service together. It’s free, and it’s required before a Bright Chapter. Book it as “Color Consult.”
Prices are posted, and everything is included: Shape $85, Gloss & Go $95, Next Chapter $150, Signature Color $225, Signature & Shape $285, Bright Chapter $275. Add a Shape to any color service for $60. The Color Consult is free. Everything is priced by the service and the time, never by your gender.
Most color visits take two hours or less, including the consult, color, treatment and styling. A Shape or a Gloss & Go takes about 45 minutes.
No card or deposit needed to book, except for Bright Chapter. Cancel or reschedule free up to 24 hours before your appointment. Inside 24 hours, 50% of the service is charged, to protect the time held for you.
Yes. A Gloss & Go softens grey without covering it. Growing out old color into your natural silver starts with a Signature Color, then a gloss every 6 to 8 weeks while it grows. Already silver? A gloss makes it brighter.
Vivids look best with a gloss every 4 to 6 weeks. A Next Chapter matches roots within 8 weeks. Prefer fewer visits? Tell me in the consult, and we will choose color that grows out gracefully.
Usually, yes. Layers of old color lift unevenly, so we start with the free consult and a strand test before booking color.
Yes. Short Story Hair Color is Black and LGBTQIA+-owned, a short walk from Dupont Circle, and my chair is for short hair on every gender, identity and texture. I’m a Hair Has No Gender Allied Space, and I price by the service and the time, never by your gender.
I don’t do fades; keep your barber for the sides and I’ll do the color. I don’t press or flat iron, so every finish is natural. I don’t do long-hair color or extensions; the Hair Has No Gender directory lists affirming salons for length.
Not here. Hair loss care and custom cranial prostheses are the work of my sister practice, The Donna Jean Hair Restoration Clinic (thedonnajean.clinic). Start there; when you’re ready for color, I’m here.
